How TO Install Docker On Ubuntu 18.04/16.04

How To Install Docker In Ubuntu Linux 14.04, 16.04 And 18.04



I'm going to show you how to install and run Docker in Ubuntu Linux

First update source-list

sudo apt update

Install required dependencies..

sudo apt install apt-transport-https ca-certificates curl software-properties-common

Then.. Add docker's official GPG key with following command..

curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo apt-key add -

The above commands output will looks like..

shivaraj@shivaraj-Aspire-A315-21:~$ curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo apt-key add - OK shivaraj@shivaraj-Aspire-A315-21:~$

Now add Docker Community Edition's repository to list..

sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu $(lsb_release -cs) stable"

Now update the package index once again..

sudo apt update

Now Install the docker..

sudo apt install docker-ce

The Docker daemon starts automatically.

Verify the installation.. with the following command...

sudo docker run hello-world

This message shows that your installation appears to be working correctly. To generate this message, Docker took the following steps: 1. The Docker client contacted the Docker daemon. 2. The Docker daemon pulled the "hello-world" image from the Docker Hub. (amd64) 3. The Docker daemon created a new container from that image which runs the executable that produces the output you are currently reading. 4. The Docker daemon streamed that output to the Docker client, which sent it to your terminal.
